Injection Moulding Troubleshooting
Injection moulding problems are not always a machine problem. They may lie in the part, the mould, the material or the process. We examine the whole chain to find the real cause.
Part, mould, material and process act together.
A defect that appears on the machine is often born elsewhere: a wall thickness that invites sink marks, a gate in the wrong place, cooling that cannot hold the part flat, a material that was not dried. Adjusting the process can hide it for a while, at the cost of a longer cycle or a narrow window that fails on the next shift.
Decades of producing technical parts, and of designing and running the moulds for them, is what lets us see the whole chain.
Typical problems
- Warpage
- Sink marks
- Weld lines
- Short shots
- Flash
- Dimensional instability
- Filling problems
- Cooling problems
- Unstable production
- Part / mould / material / process interaction
What we do not do
We do not repair injection moulding machines. We investigate the part, the mould, the material and the process to find the cause of the problem.
From the defect to a stable process.
-
The defect and its history
Good and bad parts, when it started, what changed: material batch, mould maintenance, machine, settings.
-
On the machine
The process observed and recorded as it runs, and the mould and material handling checked.
-
The cause
Part design, mould, material or process, separated by trials where needed.
-
The remedy
A process window that holds, a mould correction agreed with the toolmaker, or a design change, and a check that it worked.
